More CV Staff Logos

Saturday, March 31, 2007   4:20 PM

Hola! I'm back from Spring Break. I've been cut off from the rest of the world since I've been on break because I don't have access to the Internet at home. Anyway, here are some more samples/ideas for the staff logos. They're do on April 9th, so I still have some more time to come up with better ideas.

CV Staff Logo

Friday, March 23, 2007   12:02 AM

Campus Village, the housing complex I currently live in, is looking for a new logo for their staff shirts next year. I decided to take a stab at it. Besides, it's good practice, since I don't regularly make logos.

CV Staff Logo (concept)

Can you tell that I suck? It looks like a beetle with eyelashes or something. I'll try taking another stab at it later. Maybe this coming Spring Break.

Web Template #1 - WIP 2

Tuesday, March 20, 2007   11:39 PM

I didn't get the chance to code this yet (actually, I just started on it a bit), but I've added little icons and a tentative selection of fonts and colors.

Web Template #1 - WIP

Sunday, March 18, 2007   1:57 PM

I haven't really been doing a lot of web templates lately... just graphics work. Mainly, the reason for that (or at least that's what I'm telling myself) is that I'm not terribly good at graphics, so I feel the need to practice that. But I think I'm also letting my coding muscles atrophy, and I think by doing some more web template-ing, I'll be more practiced and innovative at it. Especially since I like doing web designing more than just graphics.

Template 1

Obviously, I'm not done with it. And I'm planning on adding some little icons here and there (namely the navigation bar). I wasn't too concerned with the header graphics side of things, so that's why it looks so plain. It's just a practice exercise for me anyway.

Eventually, when I feel a little more practiced at implementing the latest validated XHTML/CSS code (that's not IE buggy), I should move on to more dynamic web pages, implementing Javascript and all that fun stuff.

Happy St. Patty's Day!

Something appropriate to the occasion:

Shamrock

I'm not sure what I was thinking when I was making this... maybe that I want a shamrock cookie wrapped in fancy plastic?

Balloon with Gradient Mesh

Friday, March 16, 2007   4:48 PM

I've been using gradient mesh so far for simple abstract things. It's such a hard tool to manage, but it can be really useful for drawing. I decided to try and draw a balloon with it, and here's the result:

balloon

Pretty bad, I know. And the mouth of the balloon is too big, but I realized that a little too late while playing with the gradient mesh, so I wasn't really able to fix it without starting all over again. Anyway, just another Illustrator thing I need practice on, I guess.

Staff Store Payroll Stuffer #2

Tuesday, March 13, 2007   12:26 PM

Here's another one. I tried to keep it pretty minimalist.

Staff Store Payroll Stuffer #2

Apparently, my idea of minimalist includes the use of sans serif fonts. Not really sure why. Serif fonts are supposed to be easier to read on print, but it seemed like sans serif worked better here.

Staff Store Payroll Stuffer #1

  12:31 AM

Here's a little piece of literature I'm working on for an independent insurance company.

Staff Store Payroll Stuffer #1

It's supposed to be 3 or 4 colors, so that's why there's such a minimalist approach in terms of colors. Hopefully, shades of colors won't count as a discrete color in itself.

Brambles & Fruit

I haven't done anything really abstract in a while. As you can see... I like spirals and circles.

UCI Dermatology Logo Contest - Attempt 1

UCI Medical Center's Department of Dermatology is holding a logo contest. I took a stab at it, but out came this fugly thing. I'll try again sometime later, I suppose...

Bare Tree

Tuesday, March 06, 2007   12:45 PM

I haven't really experimented with Illustrator's brush set much. Mostly because they're too fanciful to be useful in any practical sense. However, I just recently realized that I could make my own brushes if I wanted to. So, using both pre-made brushes and simple ones that I made, I created the following:

Dean's Ambassadors Council Website - Finished

Sunday, March 04, 2007   6:01 PM

I've finally finished all the sections for this site, as well as added the official logo. It doesn't actually look that much different from previously, but I got a lot more done on it than you can see in a screencap.

Housing Handbook Back Cover, v.2

Friday, March 02, 2007   10:17 AM

As per Peter's wise suggestion, I made the frames ovals instead of rounded rectangles so that it could have a better, coherent theme.
