Patterned Trees

Thursday, June 14, 2007   2:38 PM

School's over! Yay! Here's a composition that I made... I originally conceived of something a little more pattern-texture heavy, but it would have looked too busy, and my computer would have died on top of that.

Graduation House Ad

Sunday, June 03, 2007   2:45 PM

I know it's been a hella long time since I've posted. Recently I've been helping take over a normally full-time position at the newspaper and haven't had the time to mess around. Anyway, here's a house ad I designed at work:

Graduation House Ad

It's for the Graduation section of this last issue. There were a lot of filler spaces to fill up, so that was one of them that I designed to cover that up.

Mountains - WIP

Thursday, April 19, 2007   3:42 PM

I'm trying a watercolor-like composition today. It's not done yet. I'm still trying to figure out how to make the bamboo leaves look brushed in without it being too obvious. Here's how it looks like right now:

More CV Staff Logos

Saturday, March 31, 2007   4:20 PM

Hola! I'm back from Spring Break. I've been cut off from the rest of the world since I've been on break because I don't have access to the Internet at home. Anyway, here are some more samples/ideas for the staff logos. They're do on April 9th, so I still have some more time to come up with better ideas.

CV Staff Logo

Friday, March 23, 2007   12:02 AM

Campus Village, the housing complex I currently live in, is looking for a new logo for their staff shirts next year. I decided to take a stab at it. Besides, it's good practice, since I don't regularly make logos.

CV Staff Logo (concept)

Can you tell that I suck? It looks like a beetle with eyelashes or something. I'll try taking another stab at it later. Maybe this coming Spring Break.

Happy St. Patty's Day!

Something appropriate to the occasion:

Shamrock

I'm not sure what I was thinking when I was making this... maybe that I want a shamrock cookie wrapped in fancy plastic?

Balloon with Gradient Mesh

Friday, March 16, 2007   4:48 PM

I've been using gradient mesh so far for simple abstract things. It's such a hard tool to manage, but it can be really useful for drawing. I decided to try and draw a balloon with it, and here's the result:

balloon

Pretty bad, I know. And the mouth of the balloon is too big, but I realized that a little too late while playing with the gradient mesh, so I wasn't really able to fix it without starting all over again. Anyway, just another Illustrator thing I need practice on, I guess.

Bare Tree

Tuesday, March 06, 2007   12:45 PM

I haven't really experimented with Illustrator's brush set much. Mostly because they're too fanciful to be useful in any practical sense. However, I just recently realized that I could make my own brushes if I wanted to. So, using both pre-made brushes and simple ones that I made, I created the following:

Housing Handbook Front Cover

Saturday, February 24, 2007   4:30 PM

The deadline for the submissions of cover designs is coming up. I've managed to finish the front cover, but I might end up changing it up a bit. I'm not too happy with it as it is right now. It's so... blah.

Rukia Vector (WIP)

Thursday, February 22, 2007   1:30 PM

Agh, I didn't have any time to work on anything today. And since I'm going to be busy tonight, I guess I'll just post up a little side project I've been doing.

I'm making vector graphics of my friend's favorite anime characters, since she likes making fanarts. This should give her more flexibility with her fanarts. I'm planning on giving some of these to her for her birthday (which isn't until May), but I'm starting out so early on because I expect that a)I will be busy with so much other things and b)it actually takes me quite a while to do each of these. I'm hoping that she doesn't look at my blog here, but I'm pretty sure she doesn't.

Plus, it helps me with my pen skills on Illustrator.

My Chinese Name in All Its Brushy Glory

Tuesday, February 20, 2007   11:15 AM

This little trial was inspired by the Chinese New Year cover I did for the New University newspaper. I was attempting to do traditional Chinese calligraphy for the characters "gong xi fa cai," and while it doesn't look too much like traditional calligraphy, I think it looks pretty interesting in its simulation of it.

Huang Tian Tian

I think that it could use some work, but the faults probably lie most with my sad inability to write well in Chinese. My name means tranquility, while my surname means yellow, thus the reason for my pick of colors here.
