Housing Handbook Back Cover
Wednesday, February 28, 2007 2:41 PM
Here's the back end of the cover design.
The background actually went through a couple of variations. At first, I thought I would just make it a solid blue, but then it looked too boring. Then I tried a trippy, blurry, textured background, but then it just looked busy and random. Then I decided that it was probably best to make it look similar to the front cover.
There wasn't really a rhyme or reason as to why I chose to make these pictures this way. I just wanted to try out the 3-D pop-out effect. Whatever. It doesn't really have to have a coherent theme in it.

Housing Handbook Cover, Take 2
Tuesday, February 27, 2007 1:38 PM
I hated that last cover, so I started on a clean slate this time.
The cover's a bit busy, but more aesthetically pleasing, I think.

Housing Handbook Front Cover
Saturday, February 24, 2007 4:30 PM
The deadline for the submissions of cover designs is coming up. I've managed to finish the front cover, but I might end up changing it up a bit. I'm not too happy with it as it is right now. It's so... blah.

Rukia Vector (WIP)
Thursday, February 22, 2007 1:30 PM
Agh, I didn't have any time to work on anything today. And since I'm going to be busy tonight, I guess I'll just post up a little side project I've been doing.
I'm making vector graphics of my friend's favorite anime characters, since she likes making fanarts. This should give her more flexibility with her fanarts. I'm planning on giving some of these to her for her birthday (which isn't until May), but I'm starting out so early on because I expect that a)I will be busy with so much other things and b)it actually takes me quite a while to do each of these. I'm hoping that she doesn't look at my blog here, but I'm pretty sure she doesn't.
Plus, it helps me with my pen skills on Illustrator.

Dean's Ambassadors Council Website
Wednesday, February 21, 2007 9:36 AM
Here's the template I've done for the Dean's Ambassadors Council. It's not done yet, since I haven't received any graphics or really any new information besides what links they would like on it for now, but this is pretty much what I had in mind.
I didn't want anything fancy. I wanted to keep it plain, simple, and navigable, yet still aesthetically pleasing. It's XHTML and CSS validated (but I guess that wouldn't really be important on a student council website). I plan on doing something with the header, of course, but for now, since I don't have graphics for it, I just have what's up there. Of course, this looks a little uglier in IE, but at least it's not broken, which is saying something.

My Chinese Name in All Its Brushy Glory
Tuesday, February 20, 2007 11:15 AM
This little trial was inspired by the Chinese New Year cover I did for the New University newspaper. I was attempting to do traditional Chinese calligraphy for the characters "gong xi fa cai," and while it doesn't look too much like traditional calligraphy, I think it looks pretty interesting in its simulation of it.
I think that it could use some work, but the faults probably lie most with my sad inability to write well in Chinese. My name means tranquility, while my surname means yellow, thus the reason for my pick of colors here.

Doctor Who Desktop Wallpaper
Sunday, February 18, 2007 2:26 PM
It's been a while since I've done a fanart desktop wallpaper. Speaking of which, I need to update Oblivion sometime. Too lazy...
I don't really like it very much... I feel like it could do something more.

Housing Handbook Cover - WIP #1
12:03 AM
Sorry for the late post... there was a blackout and my inability to be paranoid enough to save often while working caused me to lose some of my work.
I'm starting to work on the on-campus Housing Handbook Cover Contest. The deadline for the contest is March 5th. So, plenty of time, but I should get to it before I don't have time to do it anymore.
My rough idea for the cover right now is to make a cityscape-like silhouette structure using the 4 housing communities. Today, I worked on Arroyo Vista.

Aeryn Sun Line Drawing - In Full Color!
Monday, February 12, 2007 1:25 AM
Okay, so as you know, I was dissatisfied with the original line drawing, mostly because her hair looked funky. I decided to get rid of the faithfulness to the original picture and make it look more "drawn." Here's the result (plus the addition of color):

Aeryn Sun line drawing
Saturday, February 10, 2007 4:54 PM
Whew. Midterm week was a killer. I could have died. Literally. Okay, almost literally.
I've been thinking about doing a line drawing for a while, but didn't have the chance to until today. Here's my first attempt at it:
It looks all right, but I think I could have done the hair better. It doesn't have enough oomph in the hair. I could probably have put a few white lines to make her hair have more dimension to it. Oh well.

Cylon Vector Art
Sunday, February 04, 2007 4:14 PM
Well, here's the finished product of the Cylon Vector Art (re: previous post). It actually took quite a while. Imagine how long it would take to do more than just 3 colors. But that's another experiment for another day.
Here's the original photo:
And here's how it looked in the previous post:

Bildung Posters #2
Friday, February 02, 2007 10:17 AM
Here are the rest. The reason why I'm making so many at once is because the journal is hoping to have these out for at least 2 weeks, and then having enough time to edit them to put out the journal by the end of this quarter.
Yup, just more of the same thing.

Bildung Poster Variations
Thursday, February 01, 2007 10:26 AM
I'm going to put the Cylon Vectorization on hold for today. Last night I worked on some posters for the Bildung journal's call for submissions (they are UCI's philosophical journal).
As you can see, they pretty much look the same, except for the headers. The challenge was to hook the viewer by reading the header. Some of them work better than others, I think. I also think the Thinker Silhouette might work to capture one's attention. Anyway, we'll see how effective they are once they are put up on campus, I suppose.
